August Incorporated – Environmental Policy

August Inc. is committed to a sustainable future and to improving the economic and environmental well being of our community. 

All activities are reviewed to minimize our environmental impact, from conserving resources to clean production practices to

recycled product life cycles.

Sustainable Seating Products:

August  has been a leader in the design and manufacture of renewable, high performance seating.

In 1976, recognizing the need to maintain and update contract seating, we pioneered development of site replaceable upholstery covers, for which we received two mechanical patents and several design patents.  All of our seating series feature replaceable upholstery covers.   Customers have used this feature successfully for over 30 years, purchasing extra covers with their order

or at a later time. Sustainable Seating at work now:  Renewable products, maintained on site, rearranged or relocated. 

Upholstery Fabrics:  “Green Fabrics” contribute a significant part of each product and its value.

   Green Crypton  fabrics contain  recycled fibers and new processing technology.

   100%  Recycled Fiber  Post consumer, Post industrial recycled polyester fiber fabrics are

     certified  ‘cradle to cradle’

   Rapidly Renewable Fibers -  100% wool August Fabrics

Conserving resources:

   Renewable resources:  We use renewable wood stocks for frames.

   Minimization of scrap / waste:  We minimize the materials lost to scrap by efficient

   cutting of wood parts by CNC router, and individually cutting fabric and foam components.

   Recycling of scrap:

   We recycle 100% of foam waste, plus scrap wood, fabric and containers wherever possible.

   Customers are encouraged to return cartons to local recycling centers after installation.

Pollution Prevention:

   Hazardous materials:  We do not use toxic chemicals; hence do not create hazardous waste.

   Glues for wood and foam components are water soluble, not chemical solvent formulas.

   Plywood, hardwood and MDF components used in seating and tables must meet California Air

       Resources Board – Phase 1 air emission requirements.

   Greenhouse Gas Reduction:  We use natural gas for heating our plant.

   Water:  We do not use water in any production processes.

   Recycled materials:   Wherever possible we use recycled materials, such as our shipping

   Cartons, which contain over 39% recycled materials.

   Customers are encouraged to take cartons to recycling centers after installation.

Health & Safety:

   Our factory is a smoke free work place.  Employee safety and well being is a primary objective of

   August Inc. We have not had any accidents in 34 years of operation.

   Healthcare insurance is provided for employees.

Community:

   Factory building and grounds are landscaped and maintained to be an asset to our township.
